Join Glam Gardener NYC and other amazing nature-lovers for a wild edible foraging tour and guided plant walk through a greenspace in Staten Island, New York! 

Foraging is the act of harvesting wild plants for food and medicine. This is a fun guided tour in Staten Island, an open space for learning and connection with like-minded people. This tour is suitable for beginners. 

Date: Saturday 6/24/2023  

Time: 10 AM – 12 PM 

Location: Staten Island, 10307 (exact meeting location provided after purchase via email) 

Come with curiosity, leave with a little bit of knowledge on: 

• How to identify, harvest, and use local edible, medicinal, and poisonous plants 
• Ethical harvesting practices 
• How to make herbal remedies and wild-food infused recipes 
• Sustainability, history, ecosystems, and more! 

This class is neither boring nor average. We’ll explore a local green space together using all 5 senses. 

• We'll see the diverse medicinal plants and wildlife that call Staten Island home. 
• We'll hear birds and bullfrogs as we traverse a local green space. 
• We'll learn to identify the nutritious invasive edible plant mugwort, by its fragrant smell. 
• We'll feel sassafras' velvety leaves and discuss my favorite uses for this easily identified plant. 
• We'll taste autumn olive’s berries and discuss the ways we can incorporate this invasive berry into our daily regimen.

What will you need for this excrusion: 

• Bring a bag or jar to collect some wild edibles. 
• Gloves and small gardening shovels and small gardening snippers are welcome, but not necessary. 
  Wear long white socks and boots suitable for walking in wild spaces.

Things to note: 

We will do this event rain or shine, but in the event of torrential weather, the event will be canceled.  

Attendees will be notified in advance via email if the event is canceled due to poor weather. Attendees that are unable to make the rain date will be granted a full refund. 

There will be public bathrooms on site. 

This tour is typically designed for adults. Teens and children are welcome. This tour is not stroller accessible. For kid-specific programming, please note that Glam Gardener NYC offers programming specifically for young children and families. This is an outdoor walk that may span 1+ mile over the course of the 2 hour tour. 

Ticks carrying Lyme Disease are present on Staten Island. There are certainly best practices for avoiding tick bites. I will offer tick repellent at the start of the walk. This trail poses a low risk for tick bites.

You may receive a 50% refund if you cancel within 1-2 weeks of the event

You will not receive a refund if you cancel less than 1 week in advance
